~ Poetry by me ~

Prayer to Bolverk

Trickster, teach me the ways of men.
Disguiser, let me fool the foolish.
I would be sly and crafty, as you are,
confounding my enemies, succoring my friends,
fighting with wit and illusions,
and words as my weapons.

Bolverk, cunning one, fixed on your goal,
patiently waiting, swiftly striking,
attaining your ends
by any means necessary,
help me to weigh my own needs
against those of others,
when I am faced with the choice
of betraying the world, or my own heart.

I know there is a high price to pay
for walking this way;
Whether others know it or not,
that way changes who you are,
and at some point there is no returning
to what one has been before.
