Var and Vor

Var and Vor make quite a pair
Both are watchful and wise
And hard to surprise
Var watches our words
How they are shaped and formed
Vor knows though
What lays beneath
The symbols and images
That give rise to words
Var wards the outer
Vor wards the inner
Together they ward
What we call our self
Var pushes us on
to keep our troth
Vor leads us deep toward
The essence of that troth
Var might punish hard
Those who fail at their word
But we punish ourselves
When Vor’s voice
Is not heard…
