The Lament of a Father

Tree of Living, Tree of Sadness,
Giver of Knowledge, Giver of Madness

Woden hanging from the tree
The father broken says to me,
That love is but a bloody lore
And freedom is for myth and war

Adam once attempted such a feat
Though thanks to Eve the task is incomplete.
Is Woman friend of Man or punishment?
Is Love a gift to Man or his torment?
Did Woman earn the blame at all?
Or was Man's folly reason for his fall?

Woden hanging from the tree
The father broken so I might see
That sacrifice and selfless acts
Are more than senseless, hollow pacts

Hanging from the Tree of Life he sees
That other Gods have hung from other trees.
Is all this endless suffering in vain?
Can ever higher wisdom be obtained?
Is wisdom even worth the blood and sweat?
Or does living only end in great regret?

Woden hanging from the tree
The father broken cries out to me
"Do not follow in my way
Lest with your life you wish to pay"

Giver of Knowledge, Giver of Breath
Tree of Living, Tree of Death
