Peorth

You will confine yourself
to destiny, like a child
made to stay inside
on a hot, fair day.

You will become a leaf
floating along the rain flowing
in the gutters, down the drains.

You’ll dance your luck
under a roof of stars,
or spear it
among water-lilies,
or feel each grain of it
slip through your fingers.

What you will not do
is forget:
the dice cup rattles
and the game changes course
all the time.
