A Last Huzzah
Odin, clear a spot for me,
For I'll be home quite soon;
My highest hope stayed unfulfilled,
My life, it has no boon.
Just scraps of parchment, worthless ink,
Just ramblings on a page;
It’s time to face the facts: I am
No poet in this age.
The world needs not another one
(Especially of heathen blood)
To stain the pages once again
With drab and shallow flood.
And so, alas, these ramblings are
My last ‘Huzzah, goodbye!’;
Then clear my spot in fair Valhall
And take me to the sky.
