Parody on "Breaking Up
Is Hard to Do", music: Neil Sedaka, lyrics: Howard Greenfield,
1962
Author´s note: When most people hear about my religious
beliefs for the first time,
they think of all the cheesy Viking stereotypes in popular culture--
the way Norse gods and their followers are depicted in movies, TV shows
and comic books. Here's my musical protest against that tendency...
Down, doobie doo down down
Put those comics
Down, doobie doo down down
Put those comics
Down, doobie doo down down
People, that's not Asatru!
I know what some folks think of me,
learning 'bout the Norse gods on TV.
Keep explaining till I'm blue:
"Hey, people, that's not Asatru!"
The old clichés I have to fight
because Hollywood won't get things right:
I'm no Viking, I wish folks knew--
Hey, people, that's not Asatru!
Not many people know of Asatru:
I believe in Norse gods, it's true.
Don't say Thor isn't real--
I wouldn't take him up
if Norsemen made him up,
that's how I feel!
I'm telling you, the lore's no lie;
I believe the old gods didn't die.
Not out for converts though--that won't do,
'cause people, that's not Asatru!
Not many people know of Asatru:
I believe in Norse gods, it's true.
These days, "pillage and burn"
Is ancient history
Or something on TV--
When will they learn?
I'm telling you, forget clichés--
We can adapt our faith to modern ways!
Get the facts right, it's time you knew
How people practice Asatru!
Down, doobie doo down down
Put those comics
Down, doobie doo down down
Put those comics
Down, doobie doo down down
People, that's not Asatru!
