This charm is drawn from original old English manuscripts and was developed
by Swain Wodening
and the Ealdriht as a means of
hallowing space prior to their rituals.
It can be sung while fire dancing with
hand lamps, using the fire to cleanse not only places
but, if needed,
specific things as well. This can be easily done by carrying a candle
around
one’s house, or a torch around one’s external dwelling.
The power for magic comes partly through the
fire itself and partly through the voice.
Channel the power you raise
through the song itself.
Anglo-Saxon Hallowing Charm
Anglo-Saxon Hallowing Charm
MP3
Fire I carry round the frith-stead,
and bid men to keep the peace.
Light I carry for enclosing,
and bid ill wights flee away.
Thunor hallow,
Thunor hallow,
Thunor hallow this holy stead.
Fire I carry round the frith-stead,
and bid men to keep the peace.
Light I carry for enclosing,
and bid outlaws flee away.
Thunor hallow,
Thunor hallow,
Thunor hallow this holy stead.
Thunor hallow,
Thunor hallow,
Thunor hallow this holy stead.
In Anglo-Saxon:
