~ Poetry Duel ~
Word-War
Two noble foes I see gathering hosts on the war-plain,
Two poets eager for battle, whom Ygg has stirred unto strife.
Equal of strength yet unlike, the rivals stand ready,
Each hoping honor to win from Odhroerir´s Owner.
Well-whetted words the skalds are sending as spearheads,
Steadfastly, lines are advancing, soon will the stanzas engage.
Speech-runes are spelled and sharply hiss in the air,
Webs of verses are woven to fetter the foemen.
Keen-edged tongues are their swords, and pens are their lances;
On the blank field of battle not blood but ink will be shed.
The first spear is flying, but words and weapons are two-edged,
by wit it is caught and hurled back over the enemy.
Both armies now given to him, Grim laughs as he watches;
no matter which side gains or loses, the Father of Battle will win.
