~ Poetry by me ~

Ships

Trading ship rowing from Birka to Haithabu,
rolling in the rough tides of the northern shores,
with a cargo of amber,
and wool and saltfish,
otter furs, bracteates, and iron ores.

Dragonship homebound from England to Norway,
setting its sail for the ice-cold Fjords,
carrying silks,
and the sick and wounded,
kite shields, captives, and silver coin hoards.

Smug Swedish freighter with streamlined funnel,
sliding through the Baltic Sea for business deals,
with a cargo of foambaths,
TVs and cellulars,
sport mags, hair dye, and microwave meals.
