~ Non-Norse Poetry by me ~

There Leads over the Rhone                  There Leads over the Rhone MP3
Melody & German original: "Es führt über den Main"

There leads over the Rhone
a bridge made of stone,
That to pass it you may,
you must dance all the way,
Fala la la la, fala la la.

Comes a girl treading light,
goes across to the other side,
And she snatches her dress,
and she dances without rest,
Fala la la la, fala la la.

Comes a waggoner´s heavy cart,
his horses pull hard,
on the bridge all his steeds
dance lightly like reeds,
Fala la la la, fala la la.

All the people tried to tear
the bridge apart, then and there;
And they came in a throng,
and they danced all along,
Fala la la la, fala la la.

Comes the king with his own,
and he steps from his throne,
And we take each other´s hand,
and we dance without end,
Fala la la la, fala la la.

There leads over the Rhone
a bridge made of stone,
That to pass it you may,
you must dance all the way,
Fala la la la, fala la la.

Note: The original song features the river Main in Germany, which flows through Frankfurt, where I live, and later joins the Rhine. Unfortunately, "Main" doesn´t rhyme with "stone"... ;-). The Rhône is a river in Switzerland and France.
