Opening Prayer to Nerthus
Great Goddess of the earth,
of land bountiful and bloody,
furious and mild,
of the earth which sustains,
and that which brings devastation,
we hail You.
Mother of Frey, Mother of Freya,
Holy Mother
of the tribe of the Vanir,
we praise Your holy name,
and Your grace
which makes fruitful the land.
Look down upon us
with blessings of abundance,
each day that the sun shall rise.
May we learn mindfulness
and our place in the face of Your power.
Hail Nerthus, Mighty Mother.
May the precious words,
chants, and celebrations
of Your holy rites always resound
in Midgard.
