Hear me, Thor

Hear me, Thor, now that we wander together
and I shall be your Loki-mouth,
do promise me that you will protect me now,
and tomorrow as well, and when ten years have passed,
for the Jotnar hate my laughter,
and the Gyger are cooling my sex,
and I am growing old and losing my strenght.
Now swing your hammer, and donīt let your warrior
die in an ambush or in chains,
for the fight is not won yet,
so mighty and cold are the Jotnar of this time

in the mind of millions of men.

I know you will stay and I know you will win,

while I will walk on soon,
soon my Loki-mouth will be silent,
my Freya-mouth will sing no longer,
and Gautrīs arrows will fly no more
so sharply from my bow.
Therefore, Thor, promise me, that you will
protect me when the foes of my courage

threaten me and make me afraid, now, perhaps soon,
or when ten years have passed.

Authorīs Notes:
'Gautrīs arrows' is a kenning for poems.
'Gyger' are the wives of the Jotnar.
