At the Dark Gate

When the freshly deceased,
still confused by the fact of their death,
ashamedly try to hide their decomposition,
when they assemble at the dark gate,
they encounter Helja, the flaming Goddess,
Helja the Great.

Behold: her face is that of a she-wolf,
who smiles at them -
her body is a burning light
that blinds them!

Sie zerreisst ihnen die Haut,
auf dass sie ihre Grenzen verlieren,
sie zersticht ihnen die Augen,
auf dass sie sehen werden.
Sie nimmt ihre Herzen und kaut sie,
zerkaut sie mit schwarzem und prachtvollem Mund
- bis dass sie endlich bereit sind
für das endlose Ziel ohne Namen.

She tears their skin
so that they might lose their boundaries,
she punctures their eyes
so that they might see.
She takes their hearts and chews them,
chews them with black and magnificent mouth
- until they are finally ready
for the endless aim without name.
