I Sit Alone
I sit in the dark- placed in Hel;
Alone, so alone.
Dark doom of the endless night,
An enemy stalks my soul.
High One, Odin! Hear my plea!
I ask no aid to fight men;
I have sent many to your hall.
Each nick on my sword
Another man’s life.
No, I fear no living thing.
This monster who kills my joys
Makes me dislike company
And avoid the two back beasts;
No joy within or without.
Odin! Clear my mind,
Aid me with stirring song.
Send the sound of the War Horn
That breaks this chain of Ice!
