Forever
Forever my soul has longed for You
As it wandered like a pale wraith
Across the barren ice-wastes of time—
Searching, reaching, starving
For the honeyed taste of mead
On Your lips.
Forever I have stood staring
Into the azure depths of Your Eye,
Silent, shivering beneath the still black waters,
Transfixed by the shadows of the past
And the grey ghosts
Of the future.
Forever I have been held captive
In the fortress of Your memory—
A whisper, a smile, a kiss
Preserved in amber
Gleaming like Your Eye in the Well,
Distilled into song, story, custom
Until with a rune
You resurrect me.
Forever is to be denied us,
Or so the stories say,
Yet my sword is ready
And thirsts for the blood of my kin.
Shining and unsheathed, it waits
For the last day
To slice the throat
Of the warg.
