~ Non-Norse Poetry by Others ~

About Theseus and his battle against the Minotaur...

Into the Labyrinth

Deep into the frightful, long maze
Sleeps a creature; man, beast and god.
None dare provoke its fearsome gaze
As they enter this dark facade.

Every interstice of seven
Athenian boys, girls and years
Shall be sacrificed to Heaven;
Feed for the bull when it appears.

Come the brave, young king of Athens!
Disdain the bull-man's cuspate horns!
High your father's sword raise and cleanse
Crete of all the fallen she mourns.

Stride forward; never left or right,
Lest you lose your way in the pit.
Prepare for this great test of might;
Your best friends shall be sword and wit.

Slaughter the bull; Slit its thick throat.
Sever the head; Take it as prize.
Flee the dungeon; Ready the boat
And remember white sails to rise......
