Norse Alliterative Poetry Workshop

Does it alliterate? - Test 2 (vowels)

The Irminsul is the "giant column" holding the sky (pronounced EAR-mean-sool).
Which of the word(s) below does not/do *not* alliterate with "Irminsul"?

1. Iceland
2. eerie
3. erase
4. uneatable

Only one answer given below is right.

Answer A: 1 does not alliterate - it does not have the "ee" sound like the other words.

Answer B: 2, 3 and 4 donīt alliterate - they donīt start with an "i".

Answer C: 3 does not alliterate - the stress is on the second syllable, which starts with a consonant

Answer D: 3 and 4 do not alliterate - it is not allowed to have the alliterative stress on the second syllable.
