Norse Alliterative Poetry Workshop

 

Does it alliterate? - Test 1 (vowels)

You are writing a poem about Idunna´s apples, and are looking for a word that alliterates with the word "apple".
Which of the words below could you choose?

1. unending
2. excellent
3. crunchy
4. alluring
5. Allfather

Only one of the answers given below is right! Here and in the following tests,
the wrong answers and their "explanations" are designed to confuse you wink.

Answer A: 4 and 5 alliterate with apple - they also start with an "a".

Answer B: 2, 4 and 5 - they start with a vowel.

Answer C: 1, 2 and 5 - the stressed syllables start with a vowel.

Answer D: only 2 and 5 - an alliterative stress must always fall on the first syllable.
